Nothing makes ordering a pizza less enjoyable than getting told they don't have your favorite toppings. As a pizza connoisseur trying local pizza or traveling to explore the best in the nation, I recently discovered a pizza restaurant in St. Petersburg that brought pizza chains to a whole new level of enjoyment. Since this pizza restaurant has over 30 toppings to choose from, it made me reflect on my favorite pizza toppings.

While many pizza lovers can enjoy a basic cheese pizza, here are five toppings I recommend to make your pizza the life of the party:
1. Sausage
In 2012, sausage was recognized as the second most popular pizza topping. I could add mild, hot, or sweet Italian sausage on any type of pizza, and it would taste delicious every time.
2. Tomato
Similar to putting cheese on a variety of meals, tomatoes are on the top of this list. I grew up eating sliced tomatoes with a drizzle of olive oil and a pinch of salt and pepper as a snack, so adding tomatoes to my pizza was one of the best decisions I've ever made.
3. Spinach
Margherita pizzas started catching my eye when searching for pizzas with an extra kick of vegetables, especially tomatoes. Every Margherita pizza I have made at home and tried at restaurants did not disappoint my taste buds when they were loaded with spinach and tomatoes.
4. Pineapple
There is always a debate on whether or not pineapple deserves to be on pizza. I always leaned towards no pineapple, but after trying a Hawaiian pizza recently, pineapples became one of my new favorite toppings.
5. Ham
Ham complements the pineapples for a delicious Hawaiian pizza, but you can't go wrong by adding grilled chicken or smoked bacon to the mix. I've always enjoyed ham on my meat pizzas, but ham is just as delicious sitting side-by-side with pineapples.
